Crews continued their search Monday for a Baton Rouge firefighter reported missing by his wife last week at a boat launch in lower St. Martin Parish.
Jacob P. Lewis, 28, of Walker, disappeared Wednesday afternoon near the Belle River boat launch near the border of St. Martin and Assumption parishes.
He and his wife had been scouting areas to place crawfish traps in the Intracoastal Waterway, authorities have said.
Lewis’ wife reported him missing after the two returned from their scouting trip and she lost sight of him in the water.
Adam Einck, spokesman for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, said there were no new developments to report Monday afternoon.
Emergency responders from several parishes plan to continue searching indefinitely until Lewis is found, Einck said.
The area of search has expanded to account for the current, he said.
“We haven’t set any timetable for when we’re going to call off the search, or if that’s even a possibility,” Einck said. “We’d like to find him, and we’d like to find him as soon as possible.”
