Addis saloon heavily damaged by fire Sunday night Addis saloon heavily damaged by fire Sunday night Advocate staff report Feb. 05, 2013 Comments ADDIS — Firefighters from three West Baton Rouge Parish fire subdistricts spent approximately six hours Sunday night battling a blaze at the Mad Hog Saloon, authorities said Monday. Brusly Fire Chief Mike Alleman said his department was called to the burning structure, located at 7931 First St., around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night after Addis firefighters arrived at the scene. “The building was totally involved so they requested mutual aid,” Alleman said. Port Allen firefighters were also asked to assist, Alleman said, and three departments worked until 4 a.m. putting out the blaze. “The roof had collapsed into the building so it took a long time to get through all the burning rubble and put out all the hot spots,” Alleman said. Addis Police Chief Ricky Anderson said the business was closed at the time of the fire and no one was injured. Anderson added the building used to house the Addis Cafe. Alleman said the fire damaged most of the building. However, firefighters were able to keep the fire contained so none of the surrounding buildings were in danger of burning, he added. The cause of the fire has not been determined, Alleman said. “It started somewhere in the kitchen, exactly how I couldn’t tell you,” Alleman said.
