LAFAYETTE — The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office has upgraded the charge against the 67-year-old Abbeville man accused in the shooting death of his son, Sheriff Mike Couvillon said Friday.
Charles Larry Harrington now is being held on a count of second-degree murder in the death Wednesday of Macade Jude Harrington, 40, of Kaplan.
Couvillon said Charles Harrington was arrested Wednesday night after his son’s death, which followed a fight between the two at the elder Harrington’s home in Abbeville.
Harrington was originally booked on a count of manslaughter.
Couvillon’s office said upgrading the charge to second-degree murder came after a review by the Vermilion Parish District Attorney’s Office.
Couvillon said Harrington is being held at the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center in lieu of $250,000 bail.
