Other EBR deaths in 2012

Law enforcement agencies in East Baton Rouge Parish worked six justifiable homicides and pursued criminal charges in six accidental or drunken driving deaths.

JAN. 14: Robert Heard, 26, was shot during a drug deal gone bad at 10488 Gerald Drive. Jermaine Dewayne Clark, 29, 2145 Carolina St., and Marcus Heard, 40, 1635 Louise St., were booked with second-degree murder. A grand jury declined to indict them.

FEB. 12: Donta Young, 19, was accidentally shot when his 16-year-old friend handed a gun to Young while the teens were singing a song about passing a gun from one person to another. The 16-year-old was placed into Juvenile Detention on a negligent homicide count.

MARCH 24: Charles ‘Wayne’ Alexander, 22, was shot while trying to rob a man near 2360 Balis Drive. The shooter, whose identity was not released, surrendered to police but was not arrested.

APRIL 30: Gary L. Seale, 58, was shot at his 12580 Milldale Road home by deputies of the U.S. Marshals Service after he allegedly pointed a gun at the authorities, who were looking for Seale after he failed to appear at a federal court hearing. He had been scheduled to plead guilty in a wire fraud, tax fraud, bank false statement and money laundering case involving more than $700,000.

MAY 27: Rashawn Washington, 18, was shot in a drug deal gone bad at 4944 Sherwood Forest Blvd. Joshua Birchfield, 28, 90302 King Crest Parkway, was booked with first-degree murder. A grand jury declined to indict him.

MAY 30: Lailah Bradley, 11 months, drowned in a bathtub after her mother left her in it unattended with the water running. Lailah’s mother, Lashay Bradley, 23, 4888 Hooper Road, was charged with negligent homicide.

JULY 11: Nancy Pierce, 48, died when she was hit head-on by a vehicle while traveling on Liberty Road near La. 64. Matthew Harding, 31, 18179 Pride-Baywood Road, Central, was booked with vehicular homicide and third-offense DWI.

JULY 21: Jeremy Coleman, 23, died a day after being accidentally shot by an acquaintance who was playing with a gun inside a vehicle the men were in near the 4900 block of Evangeline Street. Johnny Tolliver, 22, was booked with negligent homicide.

AUG. 12: Brandon Ezell, 24, was killed when the truck he was riding in flipped over several times on Interstate 10 near Siegen Lane. Ezell was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the single-car crash. The driver of the truck, Jonathan Tillman, 39, of Plaquemine, was booked with negligent homicide.

AUG. 26: Corey A. Kaufman, 32, Baker, was shot near his car in a parking lot just north of Club Sha La at 8190 Plank Road. Authorities say a security guard, who worked for a private company assigned to the club, shot Kaufman after Kaufman pointed a gun at the guard. The shooting happened after the guard escorted Kaufman from the club, from which he had been banned.

SEPT. 21: Rannell Allen Sr., 35, was shot in front of his 4-year-old daughter during a dispute with his neighbor at 16678 South Amite Drive.

SEPT. 30: Barbara Jacob, 56, was killed after she was knocked off her bicycle by one vehicle and hit by another on Gardere Lane near Nicholson Drive. The driver of the first vehicle, Darby Griffin, 49, Baton Rouge, was booked with hit-and-run driving involving serious bodily injury or death.
