Detectives have arrested a 28-year-old Napoleonville man accused of killing a Thibodaux man during an armed robbery in Belle Rose last week, Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said Wednesday.
Harrison Truehill, 612 Martin Luther King Drive, Napoleonville, was booked Tuesday night on a count of second-degree murder in the killing of Tony Rodriguez Jr., 1452 La. 1, Thibodaux, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives had been searching for Rodriguez and another victim of the armed robbery and shooting in an abandoned Belle Rose house that later was set on fire, deputies have said.
After the victims became lost on La. 998 in Belle Rose on Dec. 4, two men brandishing guns stepped in front of their vehicle and forced it to stop, deputies have said. The surviving victim told deputies that the victims were ordered out of their car and forced to enter a nearby abandoned residence, where a fight ensued and shots were fired.
The survivor reported the shooting of Rodriguez and theft of the vehicle to a 911 operator, deputies said. The victim reported in his call to 911 that Rodriguez was shot in the head during the robbery, deputies said. Waguespack said Rodriguez appears to have been shot in the upper chest.
Rodriguez’s companion was able to get away and run to a nearby business to call 911 for help, deputies said.
A body later identified as that of Rodriguez was spotted by fishermen late last week in the Rocky Canal near Myles Road on the west bank of Iberville Parish between Donaldsonville and White Castle.
Waguespack said Wednesday detectives still are looking for at least one other suspect.
