Man booked in firing shotgun at neighbor
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies booked a Zachary man into Parish Prison on Wednesday afternoon on one count of attempted second-degree murder after he allegedly fired several shotgun blasts at a neighbor in an incident on Oct. 31, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Christopher Norris, 22, 23546 Burrell Road, is accused of firing about six shots from a shotgun at his neighbor, Taurus Hamilton, the affidavit says.
Norris shot at Hamilton with the shotgun after Hamilton fired a shot the same day that hit Norris’ mother’s house, the affidavit says. Hamilton told police he meant to shoot an infected dog and a bullet accidentally hit his neighbor’s house.
A police investigation found that Hamilton’s bullet ricocheted and hit Norris’ mother’s house, the affidavit says.
The affidavit says there has been an ongoing dispute between Norris and Hamilton.
Hamilton was booked into Parish Prison on one count of illegal use of a weapon with dangerous instrumentalities in connection with the Oct. 31 incident, the affidavit says.
Norris was not arrested until Wednesday because he left before deputies arrived at the scene on Oct. 31, the affidavit says. He told deputies he would meet with them but never did, the affidavit says. He was arrested at his house on Wednesday, according to a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters quench apartment blaze
A kitchen fire at an apartment complex on Jefferson Highway caused severe fire and smoke damage to an apartment and minor smoke damage to four neighboring apartments, a St. George Fire Protection District spokesman said.
Eldon Ledoux said firefighters responded at 7:29 p.m. to a fire at Apt. 1005 in Jefferson Lakes Apartments, 12400 Jefferson Highway, and extinguished the blaze at 7:37 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
18-year-old booked in act with girl at school
An 18-year-old Baton Rouge man was booked on one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile Wednesday in an incident at Family Christian Academy involving a 14-year-old girl, according to an affidavit of probable cause and information provided by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Justice Harris, 3873 S. Eugene St., was arrested after he and two boys allegedly forced the girl into a bathroom stall, where she performed oral sex on Harris and a 14-year-old boy, the affidavit says.
Dave Smith, principal of Family Christian Academy, could not be reached for comment.
The girl’s mother contacted authorities and reported the incident.
Authorities book five on suspicion of DWI
Authorities arrested at least five people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Thursday and 2:30 p.m. Friday, booking records show.
Those booked and the counts against them:
- Glynn Braud, 18, 616 Oak St., Marrero, first-offense DWI, reckless operation of a vehicle and failure to maintain control.
- Jeremy Crawford, 31, 7325 Meadowbrook Ave., Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, improper lane usage, failure to signal/improper turn, improper lane usage and driving with a suspended/revoked license.
- Brandon Laitinen, 26, 1211 Applewood Drive, Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, improper lane usage, equipment violation, careless driving and driver’s license required.
- Brent Struthers, 26, 2360 Fairway Drive, Baton Rouge, third-offense DWI, reckless operation of a vehicle, speeding and refusing chemical test.
- Hannah Tingle, 23, 4022 Lake Court, Zachary, second-degree DWI, reckless operation of a vehicle and improper left/right turn.
