Baker-Zachary bureau Nov. 20, 2012 Comments CLINTON — East Feliciana Parish sheriff’s deputies are investigating the theft of $844 from the bank account of a Clinton woman through the use of a check for a smaller amount that already had been processed by the victim’s bank. Sheriff’s Detective Don McKey said Friday the victim wrote a check for $22.66 that was processed by her bank, but someone later used a check with the same account information and check number to buy $844 in gift cards at a Wal-Mart store in Baton Rouge. McKey said detectives were attempting to identify a woman whose image was captured on surveillance cameras as she made purchases with the gift cards. Anyone with information on the woman’s identity is asked to contact the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office at (225) 683-5459 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP. McKey said deputies also are trying to determine how the check was altered or copied to be used a second time.
