Art theft hits Angola

Prison investigators are looking into the theft of a painting of Magnolia Mound Plantation from
an inmate artist at Sunday’s Angola Prison Rodeo, Assistant Warden Bruce Dodd said.

Dodd said the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office also will be notified of the reported theft.

Mike Williams, of Zachary, said the painting was one of three of the Baton Rouge landmark painted by inmate Marlowe Parker.

Williams said he and
his wife are friends of Parker.

Parker, 48, was exhibiting the painting at the arts and crafts area of the rodeo arena, and the 18-inch-by-24-inch acrylic work on canvas had won second place in the arts and crafts show for the rodeo, Williams said.

He said the painting was still on display about the time the rodeo performance concluded and may have been taken as spectators were leaving the arena.

“Shoplifting occurs here, just like it does on the street,” Dodd said.

Williams said he wanted the theft publicized in case someone tries to sell it to an unsuspecting buyer.

"............good that they do". being a good painter has nothing to do with "what they do"! what they did must have been bad to end up at angola. that isn't a place for those who forced old ladies to cross a street with a boy scout, they are bad! if he had used his talent for "GOOD", he wouldn't be in angola, he's be sitting sweet and probably wealthy. a great surgeon who also kills people on the side shouldn't be seen as a great surgeon but as a murderer.

Just shows that all the theives are not in jail. I am appalled at yall's attitude. Bunch of blasted conservatives! The man must have some good in him to produce beautiful art. No matter what he did wrong they should be treated with respect for the good that they do. Reminds me when no matter what good black people did, they never got equal respect just because they were black. Reward the good, punish the bad. No one was ever sinless except Jesus Christ. Art might be the one positive thing the man has done in his life. Bobby Jindal has done nothing good for Louisiana and yet people still don't want to punish him for destroying the state.

Only a seasoned art thief would attempt such a heist. This certainly wasn't his first rodeo.

The inmate is not there for being a great painter. Its about time he felt like a victim

What a terrible crime for an inmate at ANGOLA to endure. Oh well he has plenty of time to paint some more.
