LSU student arrested
in N.O. shooting
An LSU student was arrested Monday for firing several gunshots at her mother at the family’s New Orleans home, university authorities said.
Nicole Lea Boover’s stepfather called LSU Police at about 6:30 a.m. shortly after the shots were fired and told them Boover was on her way to the Baton Rouge campus with a male companion, university spokesman Ernie Ballard said.
LSU Police contacted the New Orleans Police Department and confirmed they were in the process of getting an arrest warrant for Boover, Ballard said.
A short time later, LSU Police found Boover’s vehicle with her male companion inside on South Campus Drive, Ballard said. Officers then found Boover in her campus residence.
LSU Police and New Orleans police searched Boover’s vehicle and residence and found marijuana in both locations, Ballard said.
Boover was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and will be transported to New Orleans, where she will be booked on one count each of attempted first-degree murder and simple possession of marijuana, Ballard said.
fire; house destroyed
Firefighters are investigating the cause of a Tuesday morning blaze that destroyed a house under construction at 6433 Audubon Square, off Tiger Bend Road, a St. George Fire Protection District spokesman said.
When firefighters arrived just after 4 a.m., the structure was engulfed in flames, and the front portion of the house had collapsed, spokesman Eldon Ledoux said.
Heat from the fire damaged a neighboring home, but firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to other homes, Ledoux said.
No one was injured.
