Trio booked in home invasions
DENHAM SPRINGS — Deputies arrested three people suspected of breaking into houses while the residents were at home, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.
One of the three was armed when captured, and a second gun was found in a stolen car, which was wrecked during a chase, said Lori Steele, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.
Between midnight and 3:30 a.m. Monday, the deputies received reports of intruders breaking into homes while families were sleeping, she said.
Residents reported burglaries in Plantation Garden Homes subdivision and Plantation Estates subdivision, Steele said. A car was taken during one of the three burglaries, Steel said.
When deputies tried to stop the vehicle as it left the area where the burglaries were reported, the driver sped away and wrecked the car near Range Avenue and Rushing Road, said Perry Rushing, chief of operations for the Sheriff’s Office.
The three occupants fled on foot, but two were caught immediately, Rushing said.
The third, Kemo Amos, was found inside a restaurant several hours later, Steele said.
One of the suspects, Hayven Nugent, was armed when captured, and a stolen gun also was found inside the stolen vehicle, Steele said.
A search of the suspects’ hotel room led to recovery of stolen phones, weapons, pill bottles, cash and various pieces of jewelry, Steele said, adding that the three had checked in just a few hours before the burglaries.
Nugent, 17, 9911 W. Congress St., Rayne, was booked on counts of aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated obstruction of a highway, hit-and-run driving, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, resisting an officer, felony theft of a vehicle and three counts of aggravated burglary, according to deputies.
He was held in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on Tuesday in lieu of $226,500 bail.
Amos, 17, 2112 Edia St., Maurice, was booked on counts of resisting an officer, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, felony theft of a vehicle and three counts of aggravated burglary, deputies said.
He remained in the Livingston Parish Detention Center Tuesday in lieu of $200,500 bail.
A 16-year-old boy was booked into a juvenile detention center on counts of felony theft of a vehicle, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and three counts of aggravated burglary, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies said the Denham Springs Police Department and the Walker Police Department assisted them in the case.
