Two women killed in wreck

Two Donaldsonville women died in a wreck in Ascension Parish on Friday evening when their car veered off the road and struck a utility pole, State Police reported.

Brittany Huey-Riley, 24, and Shakeria Riley, 28, were killed in the wreck on La. 18 west of La. 3120, Trooper First Class Stephen Hammons said Saturday in a press release. Another passenger survived.

Huey-Riley was driving a 1978 Ford passenger car south on La. 18 about 6:20 p.m. when she lost control, careened off the road and rammed the utility pole, the release says.

Riley was the front seat passenger. Neither woman was restrained and both were thrown from the car. They were pronounced dead at a hospital, the release says.

A backseat passenger, Marcus Campell, 17, also of Donaldsonville, was properly restrained and suffered minor injuries, Hammons said.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor, the release says. Routine toxicology samples will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab.
