Napoleonville woman dies in accident; 3 hurt

A 53-year-old Napoleonville woman was killed Tuesday in a traffic accident on La. 308 at the La. 70 Spur when a pickup ran a stop sign and struck the vehicle in which the woman was riding, a State Police spokesman said.

Melina Rodriguez, 63, of Raceland, was driving a 1999 GMC Sierra pickup south on La. 308 around 3:30 p.m. when she failed to stop at the intersection, Trooper Evan Harrell said in a news release.

Rodriguez’s truck hit the passenger side of a 2000 Toyota Camry that was crossing the intersection, Harrell said.

Ernestina Llamas, the front-seat passenger in the Camry, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office, Harrell said.

The driver of the Camry, Martina Llamas, 46, of Napoleonville, and the right rear passenger, Maria Lara, were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, Harrell said.

Rodriguez, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, Harrell said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Harrell said.
