after bomb found
Police arrested a 41-year-old man Thursday accused of making a bomb in his house, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Michael Collins, 6687 Kenny Circle, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of possession/manufacturing of a bomb, booking records show.
The affidavit says a woman who shared the house with Collins called police about 7:34 p.m. Wednesday to report having found what appeared to be a bomb on a shelf in her washroom.
When police arrived at the house at 6687 Kenny Circle, they looked at the photographs the woman had taken, and notified the police bomb squad.
The bomb squad found the device, which was a PVC pipe, two end caps and a green fuse, and confirmed that it was a bomb and an “anti-personnel device,” the affidavit says.
The bomb was transported to the Baton Rouge Police Range, where it was “made safe,” police spokesman Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man Wednesday accused of luring a man outside his home via text message then robbing him at gunpoint, according to an arrest warrant.
The warrant says Cedric Joseph and a juvenile co-defendant texted the victim, then waited outside his home in the 2100 block of Canard Avenue about 8:55 p.m. on June 19.
After taking the victim’s cash, Joseph allegedly told him, “If you don’t back up, I’m going to shoot you!” the warrant says.
Child badly injured in two-car wreck
Police investigated a crash Wednesday involving a hit-and-run driver that left a child in critical condition, according to a police news release.
The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. in the 4600 block of Plank Road, police said, when the driver of a Honda sport utility vehicle southbound on Plank Road crossed the median and hit an oncoming 2012 Nissan.
A woman in the Nissan was taken to a hospital with serious injuries while her passenger, a 10- or 11-year-old girl, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
The man driving the Honda SUV was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Witnesses told police the driver of the Honda had just fled the scene of a previous crash he was involved in on the 5200 block of Plank Road.
While fleeing the first crash, the Honda struck the Nissan in the 4600 block of Plank Road, the witnesses said. The crash remains under investigation.
4 booked with DWI in EBR Parish Prison
Authorities arrested at least four people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and 2:30 p.m. Thursday, booking records show.
Those booked and the counts against them:
- Bryan Alford, 34, 5121 Dickens Drive, first-offense DWI and hit-and-run.
- Timothy Corkern, 31, 1416 Quail Hollow, second-offense DWI and failure to maintain control.
- Charles Curtis, 24, 5253 Brightside View Drive, first-offense DWI, improper lane usage and license plate required.
- Javares Harris, 27, 5335 Oaklan Drive, second-offense DWI, drinking in a motor vehicle and driver’s license suspended/revoked.
