Stolen-car crash in EBR leads to 5 arrests

State Police arrested five people Wednesday following an early morning crash on Jefferson Highway after which authorities discovered substances used to make methamphetamine inside the crashed vehicle, later discovered to have been stolen, a State Police spokesman said.

Anthony Turner, 18, of Warsaw, Mo., was driving a 2001 Honda Civic around 3 a.m. on Jefferson near Barringer-Foreman Road when he struck a utility pole, Trooper Russell Graham said in a news release.

Turner and his passenger, Jordyn O’Neal, 18, of Baton Rouge, ran away but East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies later caught them in a nearby neighborhood, Graham said. Both were taken to a hospital for injuries suffered in the crash, he said.

Turner was booked into Parish Prison on counts of first-offense DWI, illegal possession of stolen property, reckless operation of a vehicle, hit and run, and no seatbelt, Graham said. O’Neal will be booked with illegal possession of stolen property upon her release from the hospital.

Both may face additional counts pending the outcome of a State Police Crime Lab report, Graham said.

Troopers investigating the crash scene found bags with white powdery substances and items often used to make methamphetamine, Graham said.

After authorities cleared the scene, the vehicle and the methamphetamine ingredients were taken to the State Police Crime Lab, Graham said.

Troopers learned the vehicle the pair were in had been stolen by two escapees from Humphreys County in Tennessee, Graham said. Troopers eventually arrested Dustin Allen, 26, and Dustin Jones, 24, on fugitive warrants after finding them near a Baton Rouge movie theater, Graham said.

Allen and Jones had walked away from a work release detail in Humphreys County at the end of July, Graham said.

Allen was serving an 8-year sentence for violation of probation for manufacturing methamphetamine, and Jones was serving a 3-year sentence for violation of probation for theft, Graham said.

Troopers also arrested Zachary M. Kuhlmann, 22, on a fugitive warrant from Livingston Parish, Graham said. Kuhlmann, who was with Allen and Jones at the time of their arrest, was wanted for domestic abuse, Graham said.
