Police search for man suspected of forgery

East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s detectives are looking for a man accused of forging a check at a Wal-Mart on O’Neal Lane on June 27, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

The man bought a gift card worth $750 and a birthday card at the Wal-Mart at 2171 O’Neal Lane, at 7:57 p.m., Casey Rayborn Hicks said.

The man used a check containing another person’s checking account information and also used the person’s Louisiana driver’s license number, Hicks said.

The man is described as a black and 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, Hicks said.

Big rig driver charged with DWI in accident

The driver of an 18-wheeler who lost control of his rig and struck a retaining wall several times late Sunday while traveling north on Interstate 10 near Interstate 110 was drunk, a police spokesman said.

King McClanahan, 52, 9151 Dalton Ave., Los Angeles, was initially uncooperative with police but eventually submitted to an alcohol breath test, which showed McClanahan had a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent, Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said. Stubbs said McClanahan also failed a field sobriety test.

In Louisiana, a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent is considered presumptive evidence of drunken driving.

Police gave McClanahan the test about 11 p.m. after they found the cab of his 18-wheeler hanging over the retaining wall, Stubbs said. A portion of the interstate was closed until wreckers could remove the rig. No one was injured in the incident.

McClanahan was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of first-offense DWI and reckless operation of a vehicle.

Police claim suspect cashed fake check

East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s detectives are looking for a man seen cashing a counterfeit check May 30 at a bank on Jefferson Highway, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

Bank officials asked detectives not to identify the bank, Casey Rayborn Hicks said.

The man cashed a fake check valued at $2,261, Hicks said in a news release.
