Authorities entered a Baton Rouge club Friday night and arrested 29 people, 23 of them underage, the Police Department reported Saturday.
Police, along with members of the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control, and Homeland Security Investigations, raided Club Theory at 602 Main St., Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said in a news release.
The identities of the 23 underage people arrested were not released. McKneely said they were booked and released to their relatives.
None of the 23 were cited for anything other than being in a club while underage, McKneely said.
The legal drinking age in Louisiana is 21 in most instances.
The six adults arrested, whose addresses were not provided, and the counts with which they were booked, are:
- Dewayne Bazille, 24, interfering with an officer.
- Joe Burton, 21, resisting an officer and simple battery on an officer.
- Delvin Cage, 23, entering or remaining after being forbidden and resisting an officer.
- Michael Paul, 27, possession of a firearm in an alcohol establishment.
- Darryl Smith, 20, possession of marijuana.
- Christopher Wyatt, 27, possession of marijuana.
Police also found suspected illegal drugs and three handguns in the club, McKneely said. The drugs would be destroyed, he said.
The State Fire Marshal cited the club on various violations and Alcohol and Tobacco Control issued the club additional citations for having minors inside, McKneely said.
Police had received “multiple complaints” about the club “over a certain period of time,” McKneely said in a telephone interview.
“After the complaints, our guys started looking into it,” McKneely said, noting that police had sent undercover officers into the club well before the raid.
McKneely said he was unsure if Club Theory, which has been in business for about a year, would be open after the raid.
A phone call to the club’s listed number was not returned Saturday.
