BR robbery suspect
arrested at home

A robbery suspect surrendered to the police Special Response Team early Wednesday following a standoff at a home at Pembroke Street and 79th Avenue, police spokesman Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said.

Two men robbed a victim of his iPhone at gunpoint in the 4800 block of Airline Highway at midnight, Stubbs said.

Police responded to the robbery and caught one of the two suspects, Stubbs said.

The other suspect got away in a vehicle that was later found at a home near Pembroke Street and 79th Avenue in the Scotlandville community where the standoff occurred, Stubbs said.

Police broke a window and used tear gas to force the suspect out of the home but no one was injured in the 1 a.m. incident, Stubbs said.

Demarkus Gray, 21, 2515 Finch St., and Christopher Stills, 19, 5140 Astoria Drive, were booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of armed robbery, Stubbs said. Stills got an additional count of simple robbery from an unrelated case detectives were investigating, Stubbs said.

BR man, 30, booked
with molestation

Police on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old man accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl numerous times between Feb. 28 and May 31, according to an arrest warrant.

Jeffery Patterson Meade, 17313 Old Hammond Highway, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

The victim told police that Meade repeatedly touched her in private areas and, in one
incident, shoved a chicken bone down her shirt and under her bra, the arrest warrant says.

2 booked with DWI
in EBR Parish Prison

Authorities arrested at least two people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

  • John Parris, 24, 12479 Coursey Blvd., second-offense DWI, drinking in a motor vehicle, improper lane usage, equipment violation and speeding.
  • Brian White, 25, 1314 Sharlo Ave., first-offense DWI and disobeying a red light.
