Deputies arrest man accused in stabbing

Sheriff’s detectives arrested a man accused of stabbing another man several times with a steak knife Saturday night, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Jose Lopez Medel, 27, 8041 Starwood Court, was booked into Parish Prison on one count of attempted second-degree murder, parish prison records show.

The victim and his brother were at Medel’s home, and all of them were intoxicated, the affidavit says. At some point, Medel started a fight with the victim, who tried to walk away.

Medel followed the victim and the two began to fight, leading to Medel pulling out a knife and stabbing the victim numerous times, the affidavit says.

The victim’s brother drove him to a home on Potwin Drive, where they called 911 to report the stabbing, the affidavit says.

When asked if he stabbed the victim, Medel told deputies, “Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t.”

Police make arrest
in Saturday shooting

Police arrested a 23-year-old man accused of shooting someone twice Saturday night during an argument on East Brookstown Drive, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Teddrick D. Holmes, 6140 Ruby Court, was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, simple criminal damage to property and felon in possession of a firearm, booking records show.

Holmes, four adults and two children were outside a home in the 4500 block of East Brookstown Drive on Saturday when a fight started, the affidavit says.

Holmes told police he pulled a pistol from his car and then fired it, the affidavit says.

Holmes struck one victim twice, on the left arm and on the left thigh, the affidavit says. He also struck the outside of a house.

Deputies seek man on cocaine charges

Sheriff’s detectives are searching for a 37-year-old man who had 1.09 ounces of crack cocaine in his home recently, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said Monday.

Warrants have been issued for Donovan Jackson, 822 Terrace St., for manufacture and distribution of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia, Casey Rayborn Hicks said in a news release.

The drugs were found in Jackson’s home when deputies searched it June 19, Hicks said. Jackson was not home at the time of the search.

Authorities arrest 2 on DWI suspicion

Authorities arrested at least two people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 2:30 p.m. Monday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

  • Jonathan Mason, 41, 13792 Gentilly Court, second-offense DWI, motor vehicle inspection required/expired and mirrors required on vehicle.
  • Kelly Mihalco, 30, 17505 Jefferson Highway, first-offense DWI.

Teddrick D. Holmes, 23 years old, felon in possession of a firearm. I guess he didn't get rehabilitated the first time he was in prison. I wonder how old he was the first time? Maybe the law could be changed to give harsher sentences the first time so that there wouldn't be a second. I hope the next time someone doesn't die.

Uh oh DMJ.... If only steak knives were not readily available to the general public as well, that victim would not be in the hospital. ;)
