Motorcyclist killed Sunday

A Hammond man died Sunday morning when he crashed his 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle into a tree, according to the State Police.

Troopers found the body of Daniel Reno, 51, around noon Sunday about 200 feet off the left side of the Interstate 12 westbound off-ramp to La. 1249/ Pumpkin Center Road, according to a State Police news release. He was wearing a helmet.

The crash happened between midnight and 2 a.m., the release says.

Troopers said they suspect impairment to be a factor in the crash, noting that speed was not a factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending.

According to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, motorcyclists were involved in more than 1,500 crashes across the state in 2011, resulting in 67 fatalities.
