Denham Springs woman dies after crash

DENHAM SPRINGS — A woman injured in a Friday evening crash on La. 16 has died, city police reported Monday.

Police identified the victim as Mary Catalanotto, 79, of Sagewood Drive, Denham Springs.

Her son, who was driving a 2006 Ford Taurus southbound on La. 16, attempted a left turn onto Cockerham Road, but was struck by a northbound Toyota, police Capt. Steve Kistler said.

He identified the driver as Keith Catalanotto, 51, also of Sagewood Drive.

The northbound Toyota Corolla was driven by Ashlyn Kliebert, 19, of Lucas Drive, Denham Springs, police reported.

Mary Catalanotto was taken to a Baton Rouge hospital and subsequently transferred to a New Orleans hospital, where she died Saturday, Kistler said.

He said the case was still under investigation Monday afternoon.
