Convent man arrested in fatal shooting

VACHERIE — St. James Parish deputies have arrested a Convent man in connection with a shooting at the Magnolia Housing Complex in Vacherie that left one victim wounded and another dead.

Joseph Monroe Johnson, 26, 10413 Legion Lane, was booked Monday with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, according to a news release from Sheriff Willy Martin.

Deputies responding to a 911 call early Friday found Aaron Jones, 39, and Christina Gale, 34, with gunshot wounds on the porch of Gale’s Project Drive residence in Vacherie.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office, according to the release. Gale was treated at a hospital and released.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown, according to the release.

Deputies arrested Johnson after an extensive manhunt in the Convent area. The case remains under investigation, deputies added.
