Baton Rouge man missing in Lake Maurepas

A 26-year-old Baton Rouge man is missing after he jumped from a boat into Lake Maurepas on Saturday evening, authorities said.

People who were on the boat at the time said that the victim, Taylor Russel, jumped off the boat and never resurfaced, said Adam Einck, spokesman for the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Einck said authorities believe Russel drowned.

Authorities received a 911 call about 6:30 p.m., and agents arrived within 15 minutes, Einck said.

Crews are searching for Russel’s body, but they had not found him by Sunday evening, Einck said.

Crews will resume searching Monday from dawn until dusk, Einck said.

Once the body is found, a toxicology test will be performed to determine whether or not alcohol was a factor, Einck said.
