Teen held in shooting
of councilman’s son

A 16-year-old boy was arrested early Tuesday in the shooting and wounding a councilman’s son during a drug-related attempted robbery, police said.

Councilman Chandler Loupe’s 15-year-old son was shot in the chest just before 6 p.m. Friday after he, another 15-year-old and a 17-year-old allegedly went to buy marijuana in the 1600 block of Mary Lou Drive, Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

The 17-year-old called police at 6 p.m. from the 1800 block of Staring Lane and said that someone had been shot, police records show. The teen said in the records that he was driving in the Mayfair neighborhood when someone shot at his vehicle.

Police questioned and released the 17-year-old on Friday, McKneely said. The 15-year-old, who was not injured in the incident, was arrested Friday and placed into the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center on a count of attempted possession of marijuana.

The 16-year-old arrested late Monday was placed into Juvenile Detention on one count of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of attempted armed robbery.

None of the teens’ names were released.
