Letter: La. elections should follow nationwide model

Eight Republican candidates are vying for Louisiana’s 6th District congressional seat, plus two Democratic candidates including former Gov. Edwin Edwards and a Libertarian candidate! With that many Republican candidates dividing the Republican vote, it is conceivable that the Dec. 6 runoff election will be between Edwards and a Libertarian candidate.

I think it is time to get back to the normal election procedure: party primaries and an election on the first Tuesday in November, like other states practice.
