Letters: Community made soccer event shine

On behalf of our board of directors and staff, we extend an emphatic thank you and job well done to the Local Organizing Committee responsible for hosting and executing the recent U.S. Youth Soccer Southern Regional Championships. We have all heard the numbers regarding the number of teams, states represented and estimated economic impact this tournament had on our city. What is of equal importance in our eyes is to recognize the months and months of work by this committee of volunteers, led by committee chairwoman Stacie Schneider, who worked diligently to ensure the visiting teams, coaches, parents and referees had a positive and enjoyable experience in Baton Rouge.

The Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation relies heavily upon the expertise and direction of our local sports coordinators and organizations; of those we work with daily, our local soccer community is one of our city’s greatest assets. We are proud to work with the Baton Rouge Soccer Club and recognize the substantial investments, both in terms of physical facilities and program development, which BRSC has made in developing the game of soccer into a marquee sport in the city of Baton Rouge.

In closing, we applaud the efforts of the volunteers and staff of BRSC, in conjunction with the support of the city-parish of East Baton Rouge, BREC, the Louisiana Soccer Association and Visit Baton Rouge in hosting a successful event and once again showcasing our city as not only a great place to visit but also a wonderful place to call home.
