Letter: Memorial Day not appropriate as makeup day for schools

I would like to share with The Advocate readers an outright disgrace to all veterans and their families and the families that have lost love ones in war by the Livingston Parish School Board. Their decision for the makeup day for students each year (due to missed days because of weather and such) was Memorial Day! As a veteran of four combat tours and having lost many friends during my combat tours, I’m appalled, to say the least. The School Board could have picked another holiday such as Labor Day, Livingston Parish Fair day (yes, they take off the day the fair starts), Martin Luther King Jr. Day or Mardi Gras Day. For the love of God and country ... what are they thinking?

May God bless those who have died serving our country; may they not have done so in vain!
