May 14, 2014 13:34 Teen sentenced to 50 years in prison in 2011 fatal shooting Teen sentenced to 50 years in prison in 2011 fatal shooting Advocate staff report May 14, 2014 Comments A Baton Rouge teenager was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to manslaughter and armed robbery charges in the 2011 shooting death of a 16-year-old boy in the Glen Oaks Place neighborhood. Branikin Jones, 17, was 15 at the time of the Nov. 11, 2011, slaying of Daylon Wheeler on North Buttonwood Drive. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office has said Jones and Wheeler had an ongoing dispute that led to the shooting. State District Judge Mike Erwin sentenced Jones to concurrent terms of 40 years on the manslaughter count and 50 years on the armed robbery count. Jones was scheduled to stand trial this week on a second-degree murder charge.
