Letter: Utopian ideals can’t exist when it comes to criminal actions

In the recent letter, “Drug criminalization creates criminals,” Marjorie Esman of the ACLU opines that “as long as drug use remains a crime, then drug users are criminals.”

The ACLU director goes on to determine that, “If we make everything a crime, then everyone is a criminal.” The “logic” is compelling. If we make nothing a crime, then no one is a criminal.

Just imagine, if we eliminate the crimes of drugs, murder, rape, theft, burglary, prostitution, child pornography, DWI, etc., we can eliminate prisons, criminal courts and even the police.

No criminal laws — no crime. Utopia.

Sadly, they walk among us.
