The articles about Peyton Manning and his Newman background were interesting. Certainly his achievements are estimable and Newman should be proud. But please let’s not let Peyton, and his brother Eli, not to mention Odell Beckham, define our view of the school. Also from Newman have come Michael Lewis, Walter Issacson and Lee Zurick, among others. A social commentator, a historian/biographer, and a journalist of the highest order. Manning has added to the sum of NFL records, a notable achievement. Lewis, Issacson, and Zurick have added to the sum of human knowledge. If I were a graduate of Newman, which I am not, there is no question on which achievement I would want to hang the school’s hat.
