Letter: Tree-planting celebrates Arbor Day

The Northeast Gateway Coterie recently celebrated Arbor Day by planting 80 trees and more than 400 smaller plantings along the newest segment of Louisiana Avenue.

This was a public-private success story that exemplifies what we can accomplish when we work together for the improvement of our community.

On behalf of our coterie and the constituents of the area we represent, we express our deepest gratitude to: Apache Corp. (who donated the trees), Trees for Acadiana, LCG-Planning Division, Keep Lafayette Beautiful, The Sierra Club, Lafayette Police Department, Lafayette Fire Department, Salvation Army, LCG-Environmental Division and numerous volunteers who made invaluable contributions to the success of this event.

Our new chief development officer, Kevin Blanchard made an appearance. Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux and Councilman Jay Castille provided an excellent jambalaya that energized the group.

I invite the residents of Lafayette to drive by and see this beautification project and join us as we thank all of those who made it possible. Thank you all!
