Letter: Show mercy for remorseful

Regarding “Kenner woman faces murder charge in case of heroin-related death:” I believe Lana Marie Cristina deserves to serve time because she must face the consequences of her actions, but the question is how remorseful is she? I believe, personally, that if somebody shows genuine remorse, which admittedly is sometimes hard to differ from deception, that the knowledge of wrongdoing should be taken into account. I understand that is an ideal concept and may not be so easily done, but it comes down to responsibility of ones actions.

If the woman is not remorseful at all then perhaps more jail time is necessary, but just like early leave for good behavior, perhaps early leave for remorse and understanding of what one did wrong could be a potential option in the future.
