Current unemployment rate 6.7 percent. Wow! So why so glum? Why are food stamp rolls surging? Why are Dems trying so hard to extend emergency unemployment benefits? Are we still having an unemployment emergency? How can that be? Because the unemployment number being proposed by the administration, the media etc., is meaningless. People should lose their pundit license for even mentioning it.
When you consider “temporarily discouraged” people, the number climbs to 14 percent. When you add “longterm discouraged” people, the number approaches 25 percent. Nearly one in three Americans is no longer in the work force. Shouldn’t discouraged people count? Some of them vote. Almost all of them eat.
So, how can that be? How can it be getting worse after all this time? A higher percentage of people are living “outside the workforce” than any time in the past 50 years. The president has done a lot. Remember the stimulus? Think Solyndra. Remember his tax policy? Huge drag on the economy. Remember Obamacare? (I bet you do!) Extra huge drag on the economy. Remember his energy policy? Another drag on the economy. Remember environmental policy? Yep. An objective person might believe that we would have been significantly better off if President Obama had gone on vacation in 2009 and kept his BlackBerry in his pocket. Doing nothing is better than doing all the wrong things. Better for everybody.
