The state of Louisiana should consider opening up Lake Pontchartrain for oil and gas exploration.
It may represent a huge windfall for the state of Louisiana (630 square miles of state water-bottom).
It could potentially create a lot of jobs and a big economic boost to the adjoining parishes.
The oil and gas industry has become very safe, and it has the technology to protect our environment. Drilling in 14 feet of water (the average depth of our lake) is 10 times easier, safer and controlled, than drilling in 5,000 feet of depth in the Gulf of Mexico.
The time is right. New seismic and drilling techniques increase the odds that a large part of our lake could be productive.
