If one of Southern University’s tough losses this year was against longtime conference rival Jackson State University, the Jaguars had the last laugh in Houston. There, they defeated JSU in double overtime, an incredible and gut-wrenching performance that gives the Jags their first Southwestern Athletic Conference championship in 10 years.
And it comes after three years of losing seasons, and the criticism and doubt that such a long drought inspires.
Now, at 9-4 for the 2013 campaign, the Jags and Coach Dawson Odums deserve a victory lap for their perseverance and commitment.
We congratulate them on their season, and particularly their triumph over adversity.
It’s what champions are made of.
