Our Views: Business page is appropriate

If we always welcome national attention to New Orleans and Louisiana, it’s appropriate enough that the latest report is from The New York Times, on the business page.

The Times recounted the many new, fine restaurants opening in New Orleans, for many decades one of the world’s great eating-out cities. The opportunities for entrepreneurs and for restaurant staff are not exactly news, but the Times also called attention to the expanding tourism trade and the diversification of the local economy because of the expanding biomedical complex.

Good jobs for the future will depend in part on tourism but also on expanding different sectors of the local economy.

Still, tourism is a big business, and New Orleans is Louisiana’s major draw for travelers from around the world. We’ll take the good press anytime, and with pleasure.
