Like all LSU football fans across the state and the nation, we’re sorry that a knee injury is apparently going to prevent Zach Mettenberger from once again taking the snap in a bowl game, his last chance as a senior to play for LSU.
But if the LSU fans are disappointed, we’re sure that Mettenberger is much more so, as he has adopted this university as his own as much as the team and fans have adopted him. It obviously means a lot for him to play in an LSU jersey.
As a Georgia player, he left under a cloud and had to win his way back into the big leagues in junior college and then play a year as backup quarterback at LSU. But in a sometimes glorious senior year, in which his toughness and resilience have been on display, he has amply rewarded the confidence of Coach Les Miles and his teammates.
We wish him the best in the future, perhaps in the professional game, but he will always be an LSU Tiger for us.
