Our Views: Cajuns, Green Wave to meet in the Dome

There’s almost a standing invitation for Mark Hudspeth’s Ragin’ Cajuns in New Orleans.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette team will represent the Sun Belt Conference at the 13th annual R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 21 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. It’s the third invitation in a row and Hudspeth’s third year as head coach.

But that’s not all. The 8-3 Cajuns also have a chance to lock up the conference title outright in their final game, against South Alabama in Mobile on Saturday.

That would be a huge finish for the team and its selection for the nationally televised bowl (ESPN) will provide more exposure for UL-Lafayette and its progress on the field.

It’s also a terrific tourism win for New Orleans, as no crowd can have a good time like the UL-Lafayette fans. Except, maybe, the Green Wave.

It’s great news that Tulane’s resurgent Wave will be the Conference USA team in the New Orleans Bowl. The bowl invitation is the Green Wave’s first since 2002, when it defeated Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl.

We applaud both teams and look forward to a great game during the holiday season.
