“We are angry and want access to safe abortions if necessary” is a quote from a letter to the editor by Jana King in the Sept. 25 edition of The Advocate.
In her letter, she admonishes the pro-lifers as not seeing the whole picture.
She is correct in that pro-lifers need to change hearts. She is correct in saying laws will not protect the unborn.
However, she is wrong in stating the pro-lifers should focus more on people. The fact is: We do. Unborn babies are people too.
Laws will not stop abortions no more than laws against assault, robbery, murder, etc. People will continue to do what they want no matter what. But, for this country to say that killing a child in the womb is acceptable is wrong.
The pro-life movement has been trying to educate people for the past 40 years. People are so ensconced in the idea of abortion on demand that it will take a long time for the idea to fade away.
But, please do not think for a minute that pro-lifers do not focus on “the people.” Pregnancy centers around the country are trying to help pregnant women. Organizations such as Project Rachel are available to help women.
If the government would stress abstinence instead of abortion, we would be making some headway. If the news media would acknowledge the effects of the pro-life movement, we would make some headway.
Please remember, the pro-life movement is restricted by the amount of money it has to educate the public. We must purchase every bit of publicity using donated funds. Nothing comes easy. Education is a hard sell.
Abortion of any kind, back-alley or otherwise, still kills a baby.
