Letters: Politicians use race to divide country

Many say that conservatives don’t like the president because he is black. They base their accusations on the color of the president’s skin. I suppose that a very small number of people use skin color to dislike other people. A small number of whites do, and a small number of blacks do. I am white, and I can name you many white people I would never vote for. Just a few are Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Hillary Clinton, Mary Landrieu and many others. Not because they are white, but because of what they believe and how they live their lives. On the other hand, I can name you many black people I would vote for. Just a few are Alan West, Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell and Elbert Guillory. Not because they are black, but because of what they believe and how they live their lives.

Based on what I just said, I believe there is no such thing as racism. If you do not like a person or don’t agree with them, you do not like or dislike that person because of his/her skin color. You like or dislike that person because of what he/she believes, or how that person lives his/her life. The Jessie Jacksons, the Al Sharptons and the Obamas of the world don’t want to admit that because it would put them out of business. The president has not done what he promised. He promised to unite the American people, and he has done everything in his power to divide the people of America, especially the blacks from the whites. If this continues, I believe the divide will grow, and there will be violence between blacks and whites. The president and his supporters have the power to stop this if they wanted to, but I believe they don’t want to. Democrats/progressives don’t want to solve problems because they would have no issues to run on in the next election.
