Letter: French Quarter wrong place for big venue

In your article, “Census seeing more newcomers,” an inference seems to be made that residents should be more accommodating to developers like Sean Meenan, who seeks to develop a fast-food restaurant at the corner of Esplanade and North Rampart, because newcomers like Meenan “bring new ideas.”

What keeps failing to be mentioned is that everyone does welcome Mr. Meenan’s large-scale, event venue Habana Outpost … just not in the French Quarter on the last residential “outpost” in this historic landmark. Mr. Meenan’s proposal can go anywhere, just not where it breaks the law and ruins an already fragile neighborhood which we so dearly love and should protect.
