With LSU’s football team on another winning streak and several national championships brought home to Louisiana, it’s still a time of sadness in Tigerland when a legendary coach of the Tigers passes away.
Paul Dietzel, coach of the 1958 national championship team, died at 89. He was the last living coach of that memorable year.
He later served as athletic director in rockier times for the LSU program, but he was best remembered for his success with the famous Chinese Bandits defensive unit and his innovations on the field during his years as coach from 1955-61.
The Tiger faithful have much to be pleased with this year, but the today’s program stands on the traditions created by those gone before.
The coach will be missed.
