Our Views: Crude attack on memorial Our Views: Crude attack on memorial Advocate story Sept. 20, 2013 Comments F ew offenses were more disgracefully timed than that of the attack on Lafayette’s memorial to victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The suspected vandal is in custody for attaching cutouts depicting airplanes crashing into the downtown memorial. The memorial’s two beams from the World Trade Center were undamaged. The base of the memorial contains limestone from the debris of the Pentagon attacks 12 years ago. Among those gathering on the anniversary of the attacks were Lafayette firefighters. “This incident will not overshadow our remembrance and honoring of Sept. 11, 2001, 12 years ago,” Fire Chief Robert Benoit said. Amen to that.
