Letter: Work determines cruel and unusual

Data points on heat and humidity are being gathered to determine if the criminals on death row are subjected to cruel and unusual punishment. In the interest of fairness, I hope the data includes measurements from Fort Polk, Iraq and Afghanistan, on local roof tops, on our roads and in the area industrial plants.

Cruel and unusual punishment should not even be discussed unless the conditions are more severe than the worst conditions faced by our troops or the daily conditions faced by the hard-working people who are contributing to society.

If conditions are worse, there is a legitimate problem to be remedied. If not, the discussion should end.
