Letter: Libraries not a total waste of money

I appreciate Susan Tureau’s response to my letter questioning the funding for the EBR Library System. I don’t disagree with any of her comments. In fact, I think that the library system is one of the best things that our local government provides.

My point was that the cost of $45.4 million per year seems exorbitant for the services provided. Couldn’t those services be provided for, say, a mere $35 million per year?

Perhaps the headline to my letter (provided by The Advocate staff, not me), “Libraries a big waste of money,” gave the wrong impression of my position. I just hate to see our taxpayer money used frivolously.
