Recently New Orleans Firefighters were stationed at intersections across New Orleans “Shaking Boots” to raise money for the Red Cross Disaster Assistance Program, which provides shelter, food, clothing and more for residents facing a disaster. More than $18,000 was raised.
When firefighters respond to extinguish residential fires, Red Cross volunteers provide emotional support and assistance to affected households. NOFD firefighters also install smoke detectors in homes as Red Cross volunteers share fire safety information throughout neighborhoods. The “Boot Shake” is another example of the strong partnership the New Orleans Fire Department and the Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross has had for years.
On behalf of the Red Cross, we want to thank the staff and firefighters of the NOFD. It is truly an honor to work alongside such heroes. You are a dedicated and devoted group, and we are grateful to live in a community served by so many caring men and women.
