Letter: Stop wasting money in Obamacare fight

Albert Einstein has been credited with stating that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. This aptly describes the Republicans in Congress on their 37th vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Unfortunately, my congressman, Dr. Bill Cassidy, is front and center in this exercise in futility.

One would think that conservatives, who are supposed to be concerned about wasteful government spending, would not be wasting taxpayer money by continuing to pass the repeal which has absolutely no chance of going anywhere. Congress has spent approximately 15 percent of its time and tens of millions of dollars in this ridiculous endeavor.

To make matters worse, this has been the least productive Congress in over a decade. Congress has held votes on issues on only 281 days. Forty-three of those were spent on voting or discussing the repeal of Obamacare.

The voters spoke on this issue when President Barack Obama was re-elected. There will be other elections in which this will surely be an issue, but whether you support or detest Obamacare, voting to repeal it 37 times is absolutely insanity.
