Our Views: A season for the books

So far, this has been a glorious May in south Louisiana. The days have made us think of the “false spring” in which one is neither fully in winter nor in the warmth of typical springtime weather.

We’ve had those kinds of days this month — times touched by wind and damp, when thoughts turn to gumbo, hot coffee, an extra blanket on the bed. We’ve savored those days as nice changes of pace. We know that May in south Louisiana has often been about heat and heat alone, the weather slipping quickly into its summer self.

But we’ve enjoyed the chance to be outside without mosquitoes, the opportunity to mow the lawn without breaking a sweat. It’s been nice to have a spring that’s something more than a slight variation of June, July and August. These days will make nice memories when the triple-digit temps of the vacation season are in high gear.
