People who obsess about our governor’s frequent absences from the state are overlooking the fact that these days, no official is ever out of touch. With email, Twitter, Facebook, Skype and — let’s not forget — the telephone, no pastor or CEO or lawmaker or head of state is ever away from his job.
As a Baptist pastor of over a half-century, I’m so glad that for the first four decades of my ministry, I could walk out of the church office and be alone in my car (or in the hospital dining room) for a brief time for a little solitude.
These days, no one is ever away.
And I find that very sad.
