Opera Louisiane’s production of “L’elisir d’amore” on March 1 was an absolutely superb production, a performance worthy of any major national opera house. The cast was first-rate, with three of the four main performers we can claim as Louisianians one way or another.
The set was exquisite, the directing was fresh and uproariously funny in parts, and the musicality of all (leads, chorus, orchestra) was serene and magical. Any arts lover in Baton Rouge who missed this performance should go running to the next one, as this is a company that will not disappoint.
Opera Louisiane has a history of brilliantly presented, stellar performances, and they pull it off with hardly any money at all. I applaud their hard work, sheer talent, and fiscal conservatism. I eagerly await their next production and hope my colleagues in our community will join me in supporting this gem of an opera company in our region.
