Letter: CATS shelter a lamentable eyesore

While driving on Government Street in the 5 p.m. traffic on Wednesday evening, I was stopped for a red light at the corner of Government and South Eugene. There I saw the newly renovated Baton Rouge Magnet School. Hats off to the residents of East Baton Rouge, the EBR School Board and the architects who designed this beautiful facility. It is truly an icon in Baton Rouge.

Then, as traffic started to move, I looked over to my right again and saw a CATS bus shelter located at that corner. This shelter is such an eyesore, words cannot describe it. A trip by the location would serve you better.

Then, Thursday’s Advocate had an article on the CATS new three-year plan for the transportation system. In the article, it was stated that CATS would deliver 25 new shelters by the end of this year.

I would encourage CATS and its governing body to make this location one of its first priorities.

I don't see why some have chosen to go after Mr. Nicholas about his letter. This is an OPINION section. I think his intent was to let CATS know that some of their shelters are in need of repairs. They may or may not have known this about this particular stop. As part of law, you cannot make student do manual labor as a punishment for misbehavior in school. I see Mr. Nicholas's letter as another voice in our community that sees the improvements and good thing in BR and would like for those areas that need improvement to get better as well. It is sort of like cleaning up your house when you have company coming over, or maybe some don't bother or don't want company over. Thank you Mr. Nicholas.

Might get your smart phone wet while standing at these shelters waiting for an empty bus and playing with your new GPS app, so CATS better build some really nice shelters.

Is it a better idea to renovate existing shelters or provide new ones? Considering 90% of the CATS bus stops are merely signs on a pole, I'd say more shelters is the answer. Maybe the students at BR High chould clean it up as part of detention?

perhaps mr. nicholas should gather a friend or two and renovate the shelter at his own expense. if he feels that strongly that cats should proved beautiful renovated & functional shelters, he could make one or donate the funds to have it done. i don't feel that way.

Mr. Nicholas: Is it really necessary that your write this letter to establish THEIR NEED?? Shouldn't they or don't they already know? Yea, I know, they are questionable at best.
